Masters of Politics Programs (Taught in English) Year 2019

Overview

The 2 two-year international master's degree programs (Major: Politics, Research area: China’s Politics and Economy)  started from 2012, are geared towards students seeking to enrich their understanding of contemporary China.

IMP Students develop the ability to analyze China’s domestic and foreign politics, economy, and society from both comparative and international theoretical and policy perspectives. They not only acquire tremendous conceptual and factual knowledge, but also develop the functional skills needed to pursue China-related careers in business, government, and non-governmental organizations. This program only accepts full-time students.

In the last six years, SIPA program welcomed over 200 students from 40 different countries (primarily Europe and the US) with diverse educational and work backgrounds. As part of the SIPA, these students had the opportunity to attend many international meetings and symposiums pertaining to China as well as to hear from leading global experts on a variety of China-related topics.




Graduation Requirements:


Credits: Students must earn total credits greater than or equivalent to 30, with at least 19 credits from degree courses. In principle master's courses are required to be completed within the first year.

Thesis Requirements:

Each student will be asked to work under the guidance of a supervisor who is usually also a faculty member of the SIPA to prepare his/her thesis. Every thesis will be expected to meet its academic requirements.

Language: English

Length: 20,000 to 40,000 words



Scholarship Opportunities:

Each year, SIPA offer 8-10 full scholarships (Chinese Government Scholarship and Shanghai Government Scholarship A type) which support tuition and housing and 5-8 partial scholarships (Shanghai Government Scholarship B type) which support tuition. For self-fund students, the school will offer different kinds of scholarship to support the second year of study. In the last 3 years, 5 international students in total won SJTU Excellent Foreign Student Awards.

Tuition fee: RMB 70,000 Yuan/year

All courses’ transcripts in Bachelor’s degree

A minimum requirement of IELTS6.0/TOEFL90 to prove English language ability

Recommendation letters from at least two teachers with titles of or above associate-professor

Personal statement and research proposal

Passport
