Chinese Rural and Agriculture Development Strategies

Pei Zhou, Ph.D. is a tenured professor, party chief of CPC SAB committee, executive dean of SJTU institute of new rural development. He was awarded the 16th “Shanghai Science and Technology Elite” and “Shanghai Leading Talent” in 2019. He has long been engaged in circular production technology in urban agriculture, prevention and remediation of agricultural environmental pollution, as well as detection of pollutants in agricultural products and environment. He has finished more than 20 national and provincial projects, such as “13th Five-Year Plan” National Key R&D Program, Agro-scientific Research in the Public Interest of China, National High-tech R&D Program (863 Program), Program of National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and Shanghai Key Scientific and Technological Tackling Program in total. In the past ten years, He has published about 180 research papers in Biresource Technology, Chemical Communications, Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, Biosensors & Bioelectronics, Nanoscale and other international and domestic journals, written 1 books and 2 book chapters, obtained 22 national invention patents as the first inventor. He has also been granted First prize of Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award.

Research Overview
With social and economic development, the common goal pursued by mankind is health and prosperity, ecology and civilization. However, great challenges have been encountered throughout the world. They are the issues of the world’s eco-environment, food security, urban-rural gap, industrial development and common prosperity. In order to solve these problems, the Chinese government has put forward the strategy of rural revitalization with wisdom. The tasks, specific targets and the issues which need to be addressed of the strategy will be introduced. Then the significance and development of urban agriculture (UA), four-dimension theoretical system of UA, as well as the research achievements on sustainable development strategy of UA will be introduced.
