Research Overview

Since 2013, China has launched "Belt and Road" Initiative which adheres to “The Five-Connectivity Program”, including Policy Connectivity, Infrastructure Connectivity, Trade Connectivity, Finance Connectivity and People Connectivity. The initiative aims at achieving win-win results with the countries along the road. "17 + 1" mechanism is an important regional platform that promotes cooperation between China and Central and Eastern European countries. Following these two policies, the fields of business cooperation of Sino-Bulgaria are constantly expanding, and the ways of working are increasingly diversified. Since the outbreak of COVID-19 in 2020, China and Bulgaria have been facing many difficulties and challenges.

Therefore, by collecting, screening and analyzing the latest statistical data, this paper comprehensively explores the characteristics of FDI, import and export volume and competitive product categories between China and Bulgaria respectively. Moreover, this paper also describes main projects between the two countries. Finally, we analyze the national competitiveness of Bulgaria by Porter’s Diamond Model and provide suggestions for possible cooperation opportunities and fields between China and Bulgaria in the near future.
